Fetch? You mean I can play fetch outside??
Sparky made a stellar showing at the park this morning, although we're still working on being friendly to other dogs. He managed the whole circuit through the park without too much trouble, including the stairs.
We rounded out the morning walk with a game of fetch, which Sparky didn't realize he could play outside in the park. (He generally walks around the house squeeking his squeezy bone daring someone to take it from him.) After Kira had a few words with him and demonstrated that it was ok to fetch in the outdoors Sparky was all for it.
Since I'm not comfortable taking him off the leash yet, we played a modified game of fetch where Kira and Winnie threw the squeeky bone and Sparky and I fetched it. (The irony of this is not lost upon me.) Winnie was amazed that anyone would go to the effort of fetching anything and showed the disinterest that only an eleven-year old Cocker Spaniel can.
Everyone that we run into now knows Sparky's story and he has a whole cheering section. I tell everyone that the "Tail Watch" has begun! I think I might make a betting pool - the person to pick the day that is closest to the day that Sparky's tail appears wins!
I can see Sparky picking up stamina after only one day - I can only imagine what he will be like when he sheds a few of those pounds. He is definitely a skinny dog trapped in a fat body right now!
